R4i 20 Closing Event: Innov8 Hub Hosts Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps and Executive Secretary of TETFund

Introduction

The culmination of the 20th Edition of the Research for Impact initiative took place on February 16, 2024. Notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono graced the event with their presence.

Recap and Address by TETFund Executive Secretary

The gathering commenced with a recap video, skillfully crafted by the Communications Department, highlighting the accomplishments of the 20th batch. Following this, the Executive Secretary of TETFund took the stage, expressing his delight at the Fund’s significant achievements through its various initiatives and interventions. 

Speech by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives

Addressing the audience next, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives praised the remarkable innovations emerging from Nigerian Academia. He commended the collaborative efforts of TETFund and Innov8 Hub in fostering such groundbreaking initiatives.

The Unveiling of Prototypes

The event’s focal point was a captivating video pitch session featuring the diverse teams from R4i 20. These teams, representing five different institutionsā€”The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi; Ekiti State University; Federal University, Dutse; Nnamdi Azikiwe University; and Port Harcourt Polytechnicā€”presented their innovative projects.

TEAM 1 introduced ‘EcoBriq8,’ a revolutionary innovation producing briquettes with higher energy efficiency and significantly lower emissions compared to traditional fuels.

TEAM 2 showcased ‘F-Seedlink,’ an app designed to connect farmers with high-quality rice seed suppliers and expert advisory services.

TEAM 3 presented ‘DOPIN-Strip,’ an innovation aimed at combating the alarming trend of palm oil adulteration.

TEAM 4 demonstrated ‘BinderRx,’ a machine capable of producing starch binders.

TEAM 5 unveiled ‘S-Sizzlers,’ a solar-driven fish dryer.

Conclusion

The Research for Impact initiative continues to drive a paradigm shift within Nigerian academia by fostering a culture of research, development, innovation, and commercialization among academics and, ultimately, students.
